Waterville facility named Manufacturer of the Year

The Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Maine MEP) announced that Huhtamaki-Waterville has been selected as its 2014 Manufacturer of the Year.

The Manufacturer of the Year Award is given each year to a Maine company that demonstrates the leadership, vision and manufacturing excellence that characterize Next Generation Manufacturers. This year the Maine MEP Award will be presented on October 3 in conjunction with National Manufacturing Day, a nationwide celebration of America's manufacturing excellence.

"Our partnership with Maine MEP has been beneficial for us to expand our implementation and training in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programs," James Stewart, Huhtamaki-Waterville Continuous Improvement Leader said. "We are humbled and honored to receive this recognition and look forward to continuing our relationship with Maine MEP."

Huhtamaki's Waterville facility has been a cornerstone for Maine manufacturing dating back to the early 1900s when it opened as the Keyes Fiber Company, manufacturing molded fiber products. Today, the factory operates as part of Huhtamaki's North American business segment and is also the original factory for producing the CHINET® line of single-use tableware.

The Waterville facility continues to produce CHINET® in addition to industry-leading molded fiber products.

Throughout its long history the facility has worked tirelessly to improve efficiencies and provide good jobs to the community.
